Zombieland

In a world completely inundated with zombie movies and fear of worldwide epidemic comes one of the most original movies I have seen in a long, long time. I can sum this up really quickly. Its 28 Days later meets Superbad.

I loved this movie. frickin loved it. It was one of those movies where as soon as you hear of it you're like "yea I have to go see that". Well this movie did not disappoint. Zombie destruction everywhere, a vast wasteland of roaming hoards of killer rotting flesh. Throw Woody Harrelson in there with a fucking pick axe and a shot gun and you know that the stage is set for 1:30 of pure joy.

Using our boy hero Columbus's "rules to live by" we quickly learn the do's and don'ts that have kept him alive. Things like the "double tap" because that one extra shot could mean the difference between another day and being zombie lunch. Meeting up with Harrelsons character in true buddy movie fashion they set out on a mostly pointless trip only to be duped by two young girls, who they then set out to find and possibly get revenge with. Well any moron could predict the obvious next and Columbus character which is played by Jessie Eisenberg falls for the older girl played by Emma Stone .

That's basically the plot but the good stuff in the movie is defiantly the action/comedy mix. Harrelson makes the move in my book. His character Tallahassee is just plain and simple pissed off at the Zombies for killing the ones he loved and he is going to kill every last one of them rotting bastards he can. This he does with perfection and it suits the crazy style of acting that Harrelson has shown to be so adept at in the past in movies like Natural Born Killers and the like. There are a few slow motion scenes including the opening credit which are just amazing. This movie is shot really well and you get a good sence of the total destruction of everything because of the zombie infection. Its amazing looking and it makes an unusual backdrop for a lot of the humor throughout the film.

Now humours or not his picture does not lack at all in the action realm. Getting into all sorts of situations throughout the film provides ample opportunity to chop off a few zombie heads with whatever might happen to be around, be it a bat or hedge trimmers. I have to say that by the end this is one of the few movies I have watched and really hoped they would make a sequel. There is a lot of the new family guy style of cut scene humor showing the "zombie kill of the week" and it really adds a nice new take on a zombie movie. With the sheer multitude of zombie movies out there they had to go out there and do something new and original and I think this movie is all of that and more. It really seems like one of these rare gems of a movie that could easily have been released in the summer movie rush and lost in the mix, but instead released in September finds its true audience and gets the attention it deserves. I give this one a 5 star rating. This one is going down on my list of all time faves!

Oh Yea If your not already sold Bill Murray's in it. I mean come on Bill Murray Zombie! ★★★★★

Apocalypto

So really quick here before I have to go off to work. Last night I saw Apocalypto for the first time. It was pretty good but I won't beat around the bush it was prob only 31/2 stars in my book. It starts off pretty slow following in Mel Gibson's new tradition of using subtitles to heighten the reality of the film. I think the subs worked pretty well but for someone distracted by the smallest of things (like a new cat crying in your face) you might loose track of whats going on. Visually it was amazing. I must give it to Mel that he really knows how to put you in the moment. At the moment we are introduced to the Aztecs we think of the movie poster which shows an Aztec pyramid. I must say that when we finally do get to see the movies vision of Aztec culture its impressive. I myself am no expert on the Aztecs or indo American culture but I can say that it seems like a lot of fact finding was implemented into this film to get it right. The Aztec city is impressive and it contrasts to the dense jungle well. It puts us viewers into two different worlds and makes us feel much like the main character. Over all it was pretty good an I would recommend it to anyone interested in Aztec culture, or to any fan of great suspense. Just watch out for the long periods of nothing in between

Crazy how much you can do

So bear with me now because i'm guessing that for the next few days this blog will be changing a lot! I can't even believe how much stuff there is out there to add and change your blog. I guess i'm not really too surprised but it does put me in sort of a dilemma. I mean what the hell do I choose? I look online and see these other peoples blogs and thier great, ythey all have cool stuff lots of adds, tons of followers and crap like that. I'm guessing that i will end up having almost none of that. I really just want a place to talk about random stuff and to talk about movies. I mean I watch tons of movies so I figure i might have something interesting to say, but then again who knows. Well soon enough i'm going to give a review of my favorite westerns so stay tuned for that.

Movies, Movies, Movies!

So me and Katie have been watching a lot of movies lately seeing as there is nothing better to do at night. Well we use our computer for everything. The only thing we have used our TV for in the past year and a half is to play our PS2. So that being said there are a few really great sites to watch movies online for free. http://www.fastpasstv.com/ Fastpass is one of if not the best site to find movies. Here they usually have movies that are out in theatres up on their site. These are usually TS's or theater screeners. That's where some person goes into the theatre with a camera and actually records the movie from their seat. I would never have suggested a person go watch a movie like that till I became so broke that it was my only option. The quality varies greatly by movie but the site admin works hard to put better sound to the movies and to update them with the best quality version out. So in other words you can usually watch the movie but if you wait they usually put up a DVD quality version in a few weeks. I watched Star Trek when it was out and I was very happy with it. I just the other day watched The second Transformers movie and it was better than having to pay $10.
http://www.free-tv-video-online.info/ Project Free TV is another great site. Most of thier new movie links are just to the same versions as Fastpass but they have tons of TV shows on there as well. I love Nip Tuck and was able to watch most of it from this site.
Another great site and my personal favourite for movies is http://stagevu.com/index. Stagevu has TONS and TONS of DivX quality movies on their site. The only drawback here is that they buffer very slowly and it is usually better to just download them and build up your collection on your computer. I have found nearly every movie I have wanted through this site and its amazing

Trying out this whole Blog thing

So, i'm starting this blog to have a place to occasionally rant about the crazy shit I see day to day, and also to have one central location where I can post videos I see that people might find interesting. I also have been looking for an outlet for posting my music.
I'm 25 live in Willimantic CT and go to school full time. I know I know pretty typical blogger crap. I have been playing guitar for 13 years and am always looking for a place to put out new stuff like videos I record or mp3's. I really doubt I will be dedicated enough to this blog to update it regularly but I hope to have it updated at least a few time a month.
